Port Phillip Bay
From Arno Bay in South Australia to 18 metres of water off Frankston. What a great 2.5hours we had this morning on Port Phillip Bay with Matthew Boulton from Reeltime Fishing Charters ( www.reeltimefishing.com.au ) and mate Warrick Thomas (alias Sir Warrick!)
| 2.6kg - 3.1kg Warrick, Trevor & Matt |

| 2.4kg Lee caught in 14 metres off Seaford using fresh garfish |
We had no trouble getting our bag of snapper with the biggest 3.1kg down to 2.6kg. First light the fish went mad and by 7.30am we up anchoured and tried a few other spots. Just to prove that this was not the only school of fish we marked fish in 17 metres Seaford, 16 metres Carrum which we stopped and fished . only had two runs and decided to call it quits and have a hot coffee back at the Ramp. Baits really didn’t matter scad, slimy, yackas and pilchards but really the hard baits were better. Matt has plenty of free days so if you are keen to get onto a snapper now is the time to have a go.
Arno Bay, South Australia
A few of the Ramp Rats headed to Arno Bay in chase of a Trophey fish. A huge thanks to Ashley Smith from Arno Bay Fishing Adventures (www.arnobayfishingadventures.com.au )who worked hard to get us son the fish in some very ordinary conditions. Chris Earle took out the biggest fish which was 1.2 metres in length weighting 10kg +, Warrick a close second with 9.1kg 1 metres in length and Lou and Shaun catching 7-8kg snapper.

We lost approximately 6 other fish that would turn any snapper fisho’s head around. When the fishing went quiet we headed in close to try our luck on the whiting, blue swimmer crabs and squid.
Two hours later we had 18 crabs, 30 whiting and a dozen good six squid. Never the less tea that night was mind blowing and so was the left over’s. I would highly recommend a trip out with Ashley you won’t be disappointed, thanks for a memorable trip ..... I’ll be back !

While we were in SA we visited Port Lincon and swam with the tuna, this is a must to do mind blowing having these awesome creatures swimming around you, the biggest would have been roughtly 30kg. Just 15 minutes up the road is Coffin Bay, renouned for their oysters and yes it was a bugger of a job but someone had to taste test! I felt thke i'd been shot and gone to heaven!
A special thanks to Pino, Tony, Warrick, Shaun, Softy and Lou for a very memorable weekend, it was a great 50th birthday present and one that I will not forget.
Kingfish on the Mornington Peninsula

There is nothing better, when a plan comes together, myself and Jay Furniss decided to give the kingfish ago, and we nailed it, kingfish on the Mornington Peninsula things are certainly improving down this neck of the woods hopefully in years to come we will only have to fish in our backyard and not travel interstate, Got to love it!
Port Stephens
Wayne emailed me a terrific report he writes;
Hi All,
Well, what a week in Port Stephens.
The weather took a turn for the worst, as it does anywhere. Saturday saw an improvement and the fishing was awesome. My charter for the day, was my partner Louise. At 9am, and within 2 minutes of putting a bait in the water, we had a fish on. We tagged and released Louise’s 1st Marlin ever by 9.30, and her 2nd, by 10am. A great day for us all, so we went home very early.

Monday was the start of a 6 day charter with some regular clients. We caught 5 Marlin for the day and released them all.
Tuesday, ZERO. Yes, zero. Out of 50 plus boats only 4 or 5 Marlin caught. We all have days like that unfortunately.
Wednesday was an improvement with 2 tagged and at least 25 others seen free jumping.

My available days are the 24th and 29th February, and 1st and 2nd March.

Sydney Harbour
Franz Grassar had a blast with Alistair McGlashan late last week fishing for kings off Sydney. He writes; Not all beer and skittles though with the weather, the live bait and the kingies all making it a quite tough proposition. We did end up with three fish in the 90-100cm category but it could have been much more if conditions had have been a bit better.
The seas were a real issue with chop on slop so that things were getting thrown about so much it was even difficult to stand for some of the time. But a bigger problem was catching the live bait. The yakkas were far too big and the slimeys too difficult to find. If you could get some small yakkas or some slimies, the action was first class, but with monster yakkas even the good sized kingies were wary. We spent more time trying to get the bait than actually fishing for the kingies.
They lost some due to poor hook-ups and also by getting bricked, but the real issue was the bait and the conditions.
Scott got his first kingie and was absolutely stoked before succumbing to seasickness. Thanks to Al for a great experience and a great feed as well. Is there anything that tastes better than truly fresh kingfish sashimi? And thanks too from my mother in law Shirley (AKA Attila the Mum) She was drooling over the fillet as she packed it. What a great 80th Birthday present for her!
